Daniel 2

The interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.

Daniel said  “You, O king are a king of kings, for the God of Heaven has given you a kingdom, power and glory.”

“God has given you rulership over the people, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the air – you, king Nebuchadnezzar are the head of gold.

But after you there shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours. This kingdom is represented by the chest  and arms of silver.

Then a third kingdom will rule over the earth, represented by the belly  and thighs of bronze.

Then a fourth kingdom, a very strong kingdom will rule the earth – represented by the legs of iron.

That kingdom will crush the previous kingdoms because of its strength.

Then where you saw the feet of part  iron and part clay, this kingdom shall be a divided kingdom, but the strength of iron will be in it, but it will also be partly fragile.

As you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men, but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.

And in the days of these kings, the God of Heaven will set up a Kingdom, which shall never be destroyed, and the Kingdom shall not be left to other people. It shall break in pieces and consume all the other kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

As you saw that a stone was cut out without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold – The Great God of Heaven has made known to the  king in a dream, what will come to pass after this.

The dream is certain, and the interpretation is sure.”

Then the king fell on his face before Daniel, and the king said “Truly, your God is the God of all Gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you were able to reveal this secret.”

Then the king promoted Daniel, and gave him many gifts, and made him ruler over all Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.

And Daniel made a petition to the king, and Daniel’s friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were put in charge of all the affairs of Babylon. And Daniel sat in the gate  (royal court) of the king.

Daily Bible Verses

Daniel 2

Daniel reveals King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.

You, O king, were  looking, and there before you stood a very large image (statue), a dazzling and awesome image.

The head of the image was made of pure gold.

Its chest and arms made of silver.

Its belly and thighs made of bronze.

Its legs made of iron.

Its feet made partly of iron and partly of clay.

While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but without human hands. It struck the image on its feet of iron and clay and broke them in pieces.

Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff ( trash)  from the summer threshing floors; and the wind blew them away so that no trace of them was found.

And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

To be continued. – The interpretation of the dream.

Chaff – is the seed covering that is removed from cereal grain during the threshing process, the chaff is discarded and the grain kept.

Daniel 2

King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. (Part 2)

Daniel and his companions (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego)  prayed to the God of Heaven and asked for mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not die with the other wise men.

And that night in a vision God told Daniel what the king had dreamed. Then Daniel praised the God of Heaven saying.

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for He alone has all wisdom and all power. World events are under His control. He removes kings and set others on their thrones. He gives wise men their wisdom, and scholars their intelligence. He reveals profound mysteries beyond man’s understanding.”

“He knows all hidden things for He is light, and darkness is no obstacle to Him. I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers, for You have given me wisdom and glowing health, and now even this vision of the king’s dream, and the understanding of what it means.”

Then Daniel went in to see Arioch, who had been ordered to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said, “don’t kill them, take me to the king, and I will tell him what he dreamed and what it means.”

Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king and said, ” I have found a man of the captives of Judah, who will make known to the king his dream and the interpretation.”

The king answered and said to Daniel, ( whose Babylon name was Belteshazzar), ” is it true? are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation.”

Daniel answered and said, “The secret that the king demanded, no wise men, astrologers, soothsayers can reveal to the king.”

“But there is a God in Heaven Who reveals secrets, and He has made known to king Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the vision you saw as you lay on your bed.

As for you, O King, as you were lying on your bed, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen in the future.

” But as for me, this secret has been revealed to me,  not because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but so that the king may understand the dream and its interpretation.

Daniel 2

King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.

In the second year of the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He had a frightening dream, and he woke up trembling with fear. To make matters worse, he could not remember the dream.

He immediately called for his magicians and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed and the interpretation.

When they arrived at the king’s palace, they asked him to tell them what he had dreamed, so that they could give him the interpretation.

The king got very angry with his wise men and said, ” I tell you, the dream is gone from me, I don’t remember what I dream, and if you don’t tell me what I dream and what it means, I will have you torn to pieces, limb by limb, and your houses made into rubble.”

But the king continued, “if you tell me what I dreamed and the meaning of the dream, I will you many wonderful gifts and give you great honour in Babylon. So begin!”

They replied to the king, “how can we tell you what the dream means, if you don’t tell us what you dreamed?

The king said, ” I can see your trick! you are trying to stall for time until the calamity befalls me that the dream predicts. But if you don’t tell me what I dreamed, you can’t expect me to believe your interpretation.

The Chaldeans (magicians and astrologers), replied, “there is no man alive who can tell people what they have dreamed. And there is no king in all the world, who would ask such a thing that the king is asking. No one except the gods, can tell the dream, and they are not here to help.”

When the king heard what the wise men said, he was very angry, and sent orders to execute all the wise men of Babylon, and Daniel and his companions and the other wise men were rounded up with the others to be killed.

But when Arioch, the chief executioner came to round up all the wise men to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with great wisdom.

Daniel asked. “Why is the king so angry? What is the matter? Then Arioch told Daniel all that happened.

So Daniel went to see the king, and said to the king, “give me some time, and I will tell you what you dream and what it means.”

Then Daniel went home and told his companions, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah all that had happened. Then they all decided to seek the mercies of the God of heaven to reveal the secret to them, so that they would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

To be continued.

Note. Daniel’s companions –  Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah was their original Hebrew name.  Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego was their Babylon name.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing.

Matthews 21:22

Jesus says, ” And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

Always keep praying, and you will get whatever you ask for in prayer, if you believe.

Believe and have faith in God.

Daily Bible Verses

Psalms 50:15

The Lord says, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me.”

God invites us to present to Him our perplexities and necessities, and our need of divine help.

He bids us to be instant in prayer. As soon as difficulties arise, we are to offer to Him our sincere, earnest petitions.

By our importunate prayers, we give evidence of our confidence in God.

The sense of our need leads us to pray earnestly, and our heavenly Father is moved by our supplications. (Col. 172.2)

Importunate petitions means:

– persistent especially to the point of annoyance or intrusion, persevering, tireless,  pressing, urgent, overly persistent, tenacious.

  • So we are to be persistent, tenacious, tireless, pressing, urgent and overly persistent in our prayers.
  • We should pray without ceasing. If what we are praying about is important to us , we should continue praying until the answer comes.
  • The answer may not come the first time you pray, but continue praying tirelessly,  persevering into prayer.
  • Pray with ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
  • That means always continue in prayer, never stop praying.
  • God is well pleased when we pray with confidence in Him.

Remember Psalms 27:14 says,

Wait on the Lord,  be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, wait I say on the Lord!

Daily Bible Verses

Psalms 139:7-12

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “surely the darkness shall fall on me, even the night shall be light about me.

Indeed the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day.

The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

I can never be lost to Your Spirit. I can never get away from my God.

If I go up to heaven, You are there, if I go down to the place of the dead, You are there.

If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans, even there Your hand will guide me, Your strength will support me.

If I try to hide in the darkness, the night becomes light around me.

For even darkness cannot hide from God; to You the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to You.

Jeremiah 23:24

“Can anyone hide themselves in secret places, so I shall not see them,” says the Lord.

“Do not I fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.

“Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Am I not everywhere in all of heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.

Daily Bible Verses

1 John 3:1-

Beloved, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us that we should be called children of God! Therefore, the world does not know us because it did not know Him.

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

And everyone who has this hope purifies themselves, just as Jesus is pure.

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

And Jesus was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.

Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Whoever has been born of God does not make a practice of sinning, because  this new life of  Christ is in us.

We have been born again through baptism, and this new life remains in us and so we do not sin because we have been born again, and we are now children of God.
